As part of the meetings of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Private Sector Consultative Group (PSCG) and the WCO Policy Commission, held at WCO Headquarters in Brussels, the official handover of the presidency of the WCO Regional Private Sector Group (GRSP) for the Americas and the Caribbean took place.

Erik Moncayo, international president of the World BASC Organization (WBO), has officially assumed the presidency of the GRSP, consolidating BASC’s technical leadership within the WCO and reaffirming its commitment to public-private cooperation for trade facilitation and international supply chain security in the region. Originally announced in May, his new role further strengthens the voice and positioning of the private sector within the WCO framework. (See article on the election.)

The GRSP is composed of over 25 representatives from business organizations, chambers of commerce, and regional associations from Latin America and the Caribbean. It serves as a regional coordination mechanism that channels private sector priorities into the PSCG and the WCO Policy Commission, promoting initiatives focused on supply chain security, technological innovation, trade facilitation, and regulatory compliance.

During his remarks, Moncayo thanked the GRSP members for their trust and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening regional dialogue with an ethical, inclusive, and results-oriented approach, in support of trade competitiveness and security across the Americas.

On behalf of the GRSP, World BASC Organization presented a special recognition to Alfonso Rojas, representative of ASAPRA/CARGODEC, for his six years of leadership as GRSP Chair (2019–2025). The distinction highlighted his outstanding work and achievements throughout his tenure, as well as his contribution to strengthening regional coordination, institutional commitment, and the group’s development in the Americas and the Caribbean. The recognition was joined by a special tribute from the Association of Professional Customs Agents of the Americas (ASAPRA), which honored his dedication to regional integration and his key role as a technical counterpart to the WCO.
